For older and less messy kittens, I collect the cardboard box 'trays' that cat food cans are packaged in, and use them as litterbox liners. They also fit the small standard-sized litterbox, and can be 'scooped' once or twice. When the box begins to get soggy, just throw it away with the litter inside it. This protective liner keeps the litterbox clean, and is biodegradeable and FREE!
Kitten season has been later and wilder than in years past.....the big wave of kittens has just recently arrived, and with them the messy, messy litterboxes! Today at Pet Supermarket we put the smallest standard litterbox inside a cat carrier (minus the door). Voila, a tiny 'outhouse' for kittens! This should reduce the amount of scattered litter hugely....and prevent our volunteers losing their minds trying to keep ahead of the cleaning!
